Top 2 Newly Discovered Species of 2012

Night-Light Cockroach

Scientists described this glowing cockroach (Lucihormetica luckae) in a paper last September based on one specimen collected 70 years ago. It is possibly already extinct.

Found in Ecuador near the Tungurahua volcano, no more specimens of L. luckae have been found since a major volcanic eruption in 2010, according to news accounts.Picture of a new species of glow-in-the-dark cockroach
